Experience Abroad: I studied in Manchester, England during the spring of 2011.
About my experience abroad: I've always been obsessed with British things (their sports, movies, and accents, to name a few) so I always knew I'd end up studying abroad in England. Some people refer to Manchester as the "second city" of England and it sometimes gets an unfair reputation of being just an old, industrial city, but I fell in love with it instantly. Manchester is a fantastic city for students and between all of the curry houses and pub quizzes, I never ran out of things to do. You don't have to look hard to find that there is literally something for everybody. The city goes mad any time Manchester United or Manchester City plays (even as a Liverpool fan, I couldn't help but get caught up in the excitement), and there are music festivals and events throughout the city all the time. I made friends from all over the world that I still keep close contact with, which allows me to stay connected and keep up with England and other parts of the world. Most importantly, studying abroad allowed me to grow personally by forcing me to be more independent and confident in myself, as well as really showing me what it means to "keep calm and carry on." My semester in England truly gave me the most incredible and eye-opening five months of my life.
