Enjoy Culture at the Melting Pot Concert - November 6
Join Friends of Yirui Wei, MU FACSS and Columbia Friends of China for an an exciting night of entertainment. The Melting Pot Concert will feature music from all over the world and will be held at Missouri United Methodist Church. Tickets are $10 for the public and $7 for students. The concert will start at 7:00 pm. The event will raise money for Yuri Wei to help her recovery. It's good music for a good cause! [PDF Flyer]
Tibetan Buddhist Monks visit MU and Create a Mandala
Tibetan Buddhist Monks are currently at the University of Missouri. After an opening ceremony on Monday, which included chants and prayers, they began to work for hours to create a mandala in Ellis library at MU. The mandala will be finished and destroyed on Thursday at Noon. Since the sixth century, Tibetan monks have been creating mandalas, an ancient art form made of finely ground marble.

International Spouses Network Meeting - October 21
If you are the spouse of an international student or scholar at MU, come join us for a meeting of our new International Spouses Network on Wednesday, October 21. The meeting will be held in Memorial Union N232 from 1:30-3:00. Come meet other international spouses and learn more about the campus and local community. A representative from the Boone County Health Department will be present to share resources and health tips. MU Chancellor Receives Honorary Degree from Thai University

International Day and International Bazaar - September 22
MU International Day (pdf) - to be held September 22, 2009 - is an annual event to celebrate and promote international diversity and showcase cultures which are represented by the MU international community. The celebration begins with a flag ceremony in front of the columns at 9:00 a.m. Afterward, grab a free global cuisine lunch while you learn about international cultures at the the annual International Bazaar (pdf) on Lowry Mall from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Finally, enjoy international performances in Jesse Wrench Auditorium from 2 - 4 p.m. Events are organized by the Missouri International Student Council and the MSA International Programming Committee.

In academia, independent research including library research is very important in order to be able to produce papers for classes or complete your thesis or dissertation. These workshops specifically designed for international students will cover:
- How the MU Libraries work (Learn how American academic libraries can help you with your research---take advantage of all the free services the MU Libraries have to offer)
- Finding Articles using MU article databases and Google Scholar (Discover which databases are best for YOUR research. Learn time-saving tips for effective searching to find the research articles, reports and other materials you need)
- Finding Books using the MERLIN Catalog and Google Books (Use the right online search tools to locate books in the library, find books on a topic, find books that even mention a topic, and retrieve books from other libraries)
- Writing your Paper and Citing your Sources (Don't make the mistake of using other researchers' findings and ideas in your paper without proper credit)
