Enjoy Culture at the Melting Pot Concert - November 6
Join Friends of Yirui Wei, MU FACSS and Columbia Friends of China for an an exciting night of entertainment. The Melting Pot Concert will feature music from all over the world and will be held at Missouri United Methodist Church. Tickets are $10 for the public and $7 for students. Tibetan Buddhist Monks visit MU and Create a Mandala
Tibetan Buddhist Monks are currently at the University of Missouri. After an opening ceremony on Monday, which included chants and prayers, they began to work for hours to create a mandala in Ellis library at MU. The mandala will be finished and destroyed on Thursday at Noon. Since the sixth century, Tibetan monks have been creating mandalas, an ancient art form made of finely ground marble.

Study Abroad Program Development Seminar - October 30
Are you interested in developing a new study abroad program for MU students? If so, we invite you to attend the Study Abroad Program Development seminar on Friday, October 30, 2009 from 2:00-5:00 pm in room S207 Memorial Union. The workshop will include information about program creation, location and timing, curriculum, health and safety, and fiscal and administrative issues related to education abroad. It will also be an opportunity to network with faculty and staff members familiar with running faculty-led study abroad programs. Light refreshments will be provided starting at 1:45 pm. MU Chancellor Receives Honorary Degree from Thai University
University of Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton received an honorary degree from the Prince of Songkla University in Hat Yai, Thailand this week.

International Day and International Bazaar - September 22
MU International Day (pdf) - to be held September 22, 2009 - is an annual event to celebrate and promote international diversity and showcase cultures which are represented by the MU international community. The celebration begins with a flag ceremony in front of the columns at 9:00 a.m. Afterward, grab a free global cuisine lunch while you learn about international cultures at the the annual International Bazaar (pdf) on Lowry Mall from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Finally, enjoy international performances in Jesse Wrench Auditorium from 2 - 4 p.m. Events are organized by the Missouri International Student Council and the MSA International Programming Committee.
12th Annual Study Abroad Fair - September 9
Don't be a tourist. Be a student! The MU International Center is proud to announce the 12th annual MU Study Abroad Fair to be held on Wednesday, September 9 from 11:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. in Stotler Lounge, Memorial Union! The fair is the study abroad team's most comprehensive informational event of the year. All students, faculty, and staff interested in learning more about MU's study abroad opportunities should plan to attend. The fair will include representatives from a variety of MU colleges and departments, study abroad returnees, and representatives from many of MU's partner programs. International students establish "Concerned Friends of Yirui Wei" fund
The Friendship Association of Chinese Students & Scholars (FACSS) announces a special fund raising campaign on behalf of Yirui Wei, an international graduate student hospitalized after a serious drowning accident last month (see the related story in the Columbia Missourian). Interested donors may make cash contributions at any branch of the Boone County National Bank or by writing a personal check made payable to "Concerned Friends of Yirui Wei," or simply, "Yirui Wei."
