Off-campus employment for F-1 students

Work options are a benefit of the F-1 visa. Failure to follow the rules or working illegally means that you will be out of status and must be reinstated. Options for off-campus work include:

• Academic internships: Curricular Practical Training (CPT).
• Off-campus work experience: Optional Practical Training (OPT).
• Working as a result of severe economic hardship.
• Employment with international organizations.
