Living arrangements

On‐campus housing

If you are an exchange student interested in living in a residence hall or on-campus apartment, you must send us the Housing Request Form with your exchange-student application materials.  If you did not send it with your application but want to live on-campus, please send it as soon as possible by fax or mail along with an international money order or certified cashier’s check for $25. If you are an exchange student, you should send your application directly to the exchange student adviser.

If you are a sponsored student, make a request to live on-campus with the coordinator for the Sponsored Student Program. Please do not send your application directly to the Residential Life office.

Three girls on International Day.After we have your application form, the International Center will work with Residential Life to arrange a housing placement for you. Residence Life cannot guarantee placement in a student’s preferred accommodations. Once placements are secured, you will need to complete a housing contract, sign it and pay a $300 deposit (unless your sponsor is covering this fee). You may send an international money order or a certified cashier’s check, or or arrange for a credit card payment through the MU Office of Cashiers. You will pay for the remaining residence hall charges when you arrive in Columbia.

Off‐campus housing

If you choose to live off campus, it will be your responsibility to make housing arrangements either before or after you arrive in Columbia. Apartments closer to campus are normally more difficult to acquire and often cost more than those farther away. Please note that off‐campus housing arrangements require deposits for rent and utilities, as well as purchase of some furnishings, linens and cooking utensils. You can begin searching prior to your arrival.

For assistance in finding off campus living arrangements, you may contact someone directly in the off-campus housing office.
