Volunteer coordinators

The International Orientation volunteer coordinator position is designed to:

  • Encourage MU students to adopt a leadership role in welcoming incoming international students to the MU and Columbia communities.
  • Serve as a peer contact via email prior to the incoming students' arrivals.
  • Recruit and train volunteers who will assist International Center staff in implementing International Orientation events.
  • Recognize and commend the outstanding efforts of those volunteers who "go above and beyond" what is asked of them.

The coordinators will have the following responsibilities:

  • Participate in a volunteer coordinator training program on January 8, 2012, 2-4pm and assist in training other volunteers during the General Volunteer Training January 8, 4-6pm.
  • Return to Columbia the week before classes start to participate in all activities for the new international students' arrival from January 9-13, 2012.
    • Duties during early check-in and orientation week include organizing early check-in schedules, assisting with the volunteer training, and serve as the first contact person for all volunteers under their area of duty (check-ins, small groups, welcome team, events and workshops, and logistics).
  • Serve as a representation of the university community and the International Center, and to conduct themselves in a professional manner as an email contact and during all International Center events.

The International Orientation volunteer coordinators will be chosen from the applicants who submit a volunteer coordinator application to isss@missouri.edu. Ideal coordinators will have prior international travel or education experience or an interest in international/cultural learning opportunities, will have been a student at MU for at least one academic year, and will have participated in International Orientation as a volunteer in previous semester(s).
