The GIA Review Committee, comprised of International Center staff members, reviews each application and makes an evaluation according to the published eligibility criteria.
After an initial review, graduate applicants may be asked to submit a copy of a "Plan of Study" (M-1 or D-2) Form with the signature of their Academic/Faculty Advisor for additional evaluation of academic progress.
All applicants will be notified before the beginning of the semester for which they are applying about the outcome of their application for a GIA. The number of awards available varies from year to year. Applicants are encouraged to seek other sources of funding. Typically there are many more applicants than there is funding available.
Grant-In-Aid (GIA) applications are reviewed and rated on the following factors:
- Academic Merit. The letter(s) of recommendation and/or support from academic college and/or department must show strength in support of the student, including cumulative grade point average.
- Financial Need. Priority is given to students that demonstrate they have unanticipated and/or unusual financial circumstances that may significantly impact their academic progress.
- Longevity. The length of time the applicant has been at MU and the amount of time left for completion of the degree.
- Work & Activities. Applicants should identify sources of financial support and employment activity that demonstrate contributions toward their educational program. Information regarding the applicant's involvement in campus and community activities is also considered.
