Temporary Housing

When you arrive in Columbia you will need to locate temporary accommodations until you find something more permanent. Because MU does not offer temporary accommodations, each student & scholar is responsible for arranging his or her own temporary housing. Options you might consider include:

  • Staying with current students & scholars - Sometimes the various international organizations can assist you with temporary housing. Please contact the organizations directly for more information.
  • Hotel - You can find many hotels in the Columbia area by visiting the Columbia Convention & Visitors Bureau Web site.  If you are not staying near the campus, you will have to make arrangements to get around town while settling in (for example: taxi, rental car). There is some public transportation in Columbia, so you may want to ask the hotel you are staying at if they are on a bus route.

The closest hotels to the University of Missouri are:

Permanent Housing

  • On-Campus - On-campus housing options include Residence Halls and University Student Apartments. Information about living on-campus should have been mailed to you automatically after you applied to MU. Information is also available on the Residential Life Web site. If you plan to live on-campus, you must submit a housing application along with a deposit to hold your room. Be sure to review Residential Life's advice about moving to MU.
  • Off-Campus - You can search for roommates and learn more about off-campus housing on the Mizzou Wellness Resource Center's off-campus living Web site or search for apartments at http://columbiamo.apartmentfinder.com/.  Another resource for finding off-campus housing is http://columbiamo.craigslist.org/.  On this Web site, you can search for housing, furniture, and other supplies in the Columbia community.

The Internaitonal Center has a Facebook page for International Student Services that also posts housing opportunities.  On Facebook, search "Mizzou International Student Services."  Then click on "Discussions" and "Housing."

Some apartment complexes that are close to campus include:

** Some apartment complexes that are not within walking distance to campus provide shuttle service to and from MU.
