Pre-Arrival Checklist
- Fill out Pre-arrival Information Sheet.
- Sign up for an e-mail partner if you'd like to correspond with a current MU student.
- Add spouse or children to your SEVIS record, if applicable.
- Review your Certificate of Eligibility (I-20 or DS-2019).
- Pay any necessary visa and SEVIS fees.
- If you are an undergraduate degree-seeking student, pay your Student Enrollment Fee.
- Check out the EducationUSA and ICE websites for helpful information on getting a visa, pre-departure planning, travel and arrival tips, and living in the U.S.
- Apply for a student visa at the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate
- Make your travel arrangements. Remember to arrive before orientation. Become familiar with travel documents and port of entry procedures.
- Make copies of all travel documents and health records.
- Know what to pack. (fund to cover immediate costs, appropriate clothing, bilingual dictionary, pictures, cultural items and clothing, camera, towels and sheets, prescription medication) and what not to bring (weapons, electrical appliances, important items that might be lost or stolen, candles or incense, animals, illegal drugs, fresh food)
- Make your housing arrangements, including temporary accommodations if necessary. If living on-campus, complete necessary arrangements online.
- Obtain your immunization records and bring them with you to Mizzou. Look into information regarding insurance.
- Take a virtual tour of campus.
- Learn more about living in Columbia.
- Check with MU's international student organizations for additional tips and guidance.
