Temporary Housing
When you arrive in Columbia you will need to locate temporary accommodations until you find something more permanent. Because MU does not offer temporary accommodations, each student & scholar is responsible for arranging his or her own temporary housing. Options you might consider include:
- Staying with current students & scholars - Sometimes the various international organizations can assist you with temporary housing. Please contact the organizations directly for more information.
- Hotel - You can find many hotels in the Columbia area by visiting the Columbia Convention & Visitors Bureau website. The closest hotel to campus is the Campus Inn, which can be reached by phone at (573) 449-2731. Remember, if you are not staying near the campus, you will have to make arrangements to get around town while settling in (for example: taxi, rental car). There is some public transportation in Columbia, so you may want to ask the hotel you are staying at if they are on a bus route.
Permanent Housing
- On-Campus - On-campus housing options include Residence Halls and University Student Apartments. Information about living on-campus should have been mailed to you automatically after you applied to MU. Information is also available on the Residential Life website. If you plan to live on-campus, you must submit a housing application along with a deposit to hold your room. Be sure to review Residential Life's advice about moving to MU.
- Off-Campus - You can search for roomates and learn more about off-campus housing on the the Mizzou Wellness Resource Center's off-campus living web site.
You can also check the local newspapers: the Columbia Missourian, the Columbia Daily Tribune, or MU's student newspaper, The Maneater, for apartment, duplex, and housing rentals. Such ads will be located in the "Real Estate" or "Classified Ad" sections of the papers, under "Apartments for Rent," "Duplexes for Rent" and "Houses for Rent."
Other sources of apartment listings are LivingChoices and the Yellow Pages of the telephone directory. Look under "Apartments" or "Real Estate" for non-university numbers to call. Some apartment complexes provide shuttle service to and from MU.
