The University of Missouri at Columbia (MU, Mizzou) was established in 1839 and is the state's oldest and largest public institution. It is often referred to as a "Public Ivy" university, offering top-quality education at a reasonable cost. The campus has over 26,500 students (1,300 of whom are international) from throughout the U.S. and approximately 100 countries. Undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered in more than 250 accredited academic programs, many of which are recognized world-wide for their academic excellence.
