MU
()
Overview
For F-1 students, the process for transferring from one US school to another is quite easy. You simply need to have your Immigration record electronically transferred from your current school to MU. If you are a J-1 student, please contact an ISSS advisor to discuss your transfer to MU.
Steps
- You are admitted to MU and you decide that you absolutely want to attend our school.
- You tell a Designated School Official (usually an International Student Advisor) at your current school that you want to attend MU. Make sure you meet your current school's requirements for transfer. They may or may not request your written consent to transfer.
- You discuss the date you want to transfer to MU with a Designated School Official at your current school.
- The date you transfer schools is called your "release date."
- As of this date, you will be considered an MU student according to Immigration.
- The date must be between the end of the semester at your current school and the beginning of the next semester at MU.
- The date must be prior to 60 days after the completion date of your program or optional practical training.
- Know that your employment authorization will be affected by your transfer date.
- The Designated School Official at your current school will submit your transfer request to SEVIS. The Designated School Official may want to know MU's Immigration ID number, which is KAN214F00635000
- On your release date, SEVIS electronically transfers your SEVIS record to MU through the SEVIS database.
- MU will be able to give you a new I-20 on or after your release date.
- MU mails your new I-20 to you.
Note: If you are traveling, you must use your MU I-20 when you re-enter the US. If you are concerned that you might not get your MU I-20 before you leave the US, please give us your preferred home country mailing address and we can send your document to you via regular airmail. If you prefer express mail services, please contact us.
