MU International Engagement Awards

Nominations due April 1, 2010

March 16, 2010

MU's Council for International Initiatives invites nominations for its "International Engagement Awards" to recognize the outstanding work carried out by faculty, staff, and students to internationalize the University of Missouri as outlined in the International Expectations. These annual awards recognize six to ten people per year across all three categories. A subcommittee of the Council for International Initiatives will evaluate nominations and determine awardees, who will be honored at an event in April. We are grateful to Provost Brian Foster for his support of this new initiative to promote and recognize international work of MU faculty, staff, and students. Awards will be made in three categories:
  • International Scholar Contribution to Internationalizing MU
  • Outstanding Staff Contribution to Internationalizing MU
  • Outstanding Student Contribution to Internationalizing MU

We will recognize meaningful and sustained commitments to international work, whether directly on campus or brought back to the campus from an engagement abroad. In order to demonstrate their effect upon internationalizing the campus, nominees must clearly indicate the concrete impact made upon scholarship, students, or MU programs by their international work.

Eligibility and Nomination Materials

Nomination Form

  • International Scholar Contribution to Internationalizing MU - All ranked faculty (including non tenure track ranked faculty) are eligible for the International Scholar award. This award recognizes international research conducted by MU faculty members as well as other forms of scholarship, including the scholarship of teaching, scholarship of service, and scholarship of economic development. We solicit nominations from college deans and department chairs, and we also encourage self-nominations by faculty members. A nomination packet will include a descriptive narrative of 2-3 pages, a curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation that documents how the scholar's international activities further internationalize the MU campus. We encourage at least one of those recommendations to be from an international source. Nominees may supplement this required information with publications, data, or other evidence supporting the extent, depth, and impact of the scholar's international engagement.
  • Outstanding Staff Contribution to Internationalizing MU - All staff with .75 or greater FTE status are eligible to be nominated (or to self-nominate) for this recognition. A nomination packet will include a descriptive narrative of 2-3 pages, up to three letters of recommendation, and supplementary information that documents the staff member's contribution to internationalizing the University of Missouri.
  • Outstanding Student Contribution to Internationalizing MU - Students who go above and beyond in their international engagement - whether through research or service - may be nominated (or may self-nominate) for this recognition. They should include a 2-3 page descriptive narrative, up to three letters of recommendation, and supplementary information that documents the extent, depth, and impact of the student's activities to further internationalize the MU campus.

Process

We encourage nominations and self-nominations. In the case of nominations, we will contact individuals whose names are put forward by deans, chairs, staff, or students in order to secure the necessary application materials. Nominations and all supporting documents for each award category should be submitted by email to fischerm@missouri.edu by April 1, 2010.

Electronic documents should be in a readily available format, including .doc, .pdf, .rtf, .txt, and .jpg formats for text and images. Forms requiring a signature or appearing originally as paper copies, including the nomination form, some transcripts, and some letters of recommendation, may be scanned or may include electronically reproduced signatures. We will inform winners by April 15, 2010. The date and time of the recognition event will be announced.
