Q. What does this program offer? A. The Missouri London Program allows you to take classes from the MU curriculum that are taught by faculty from various Missouri Universities. International internships may be available for students with a minimum 2.75 GPA. All courses have been structured so that academic credits earned by students are part of the regular authorized course offerings. Events are planned each week which are partially or totally subsidized by the social fund built into the program fee.
Q. What is it like there? A. London - A Roman Town, a trade center, city of poets, of kings and queens, cathedrals and traditions. London, the capital city of eight million people. Straddling the River Thames, it covers more square miles of elegant squares, green parks, museums, monuments, and elegant shopping streets than you could hope to explore in a lifetime. Over forty live theatre companies, five major orchestras, plus several opera and ballet companies make London their home. The scores of performances, concerts and recitals all over the city make London the cultural center of Europe.
Q. What will I study? A. Course offerings change every summer, but consist mostly of humanities courses. Upper level courses are frequently offered. You should see the program coordinator for the most current course listing. Field trips relating to British history, culture and civilization are organized throughout the program. This program also offers Journalism and Business internship opportunities.
Q. When can I go? A. The tentative dates for this program are May 16 - July 28. Please double-check the program dates with your advisor or on the program website.
Q. Where will I live? A. Accommodations are provided in flats with two to six students per room. Each room contains beds, study desks and wardrobes. All flats have kitchenettes, private bathroom and toilet facilities. The accommodations are located within easy walking distance of the classroom and program office. Kensington High Street, Cromwell Road and Gloucester Road shopping districts are close at hand with grocery, laundry and dry cleaning shops, large department stores, restaurants, boutiques and antique dealers. All of London is easily accessible by Underground ("Tube") service from nearby stations or by bus. Address and telephone contact numbers will be provided in the orientation literature.
Q. Will I get academic credit? A. Three sessions are offered during the Summer. Students enroll in one course per session, earning three credit hours. It is possible to earn up to 9 credit hours in approximately 11 weeks. You will be able to enroll in only those courses approved by MU faculty. The approved course list is available in the Study Abroad Resource Room in the International Center. Grades earned on this program will be figured in to your cumulative GPA.
Q. Can I afford to go? A. MU attempts to make the costs of studying abroad affordable for you, however this is a fee-paying program, where MU students pay the program fee directly to International Enrichment. In addition to the program fee, you will pay MU educational fees, non-resident fees (for non-Missouri residents), and the information technology fees for 3 hours per session. You will also pay a $350 study abroad fee to cover MU administrative costs. Additional expenses for this program depend on the cost of your international airfare, on-site housing costs, visa fees, and exchange rates. Please see your advisor for current cost estimates
Q. Can I get financial aid? A. Most financial aid that you normally receive for your classes at MU should apply to the cost of the program. If you are not a Missouri resident, you will be billed for MU non-resident fees and so remain eligible for any non-resident scholarships you receive from MU. Additional grants, loans or scholarships may be available to offset the extra costs incurred on this program. Please see the advisor for study abroad financing at the MU Financial Aid Office for more complete information. The International Center offers study abroad scholarships as well. Scholarship applications are included in the MU Study Abroad Application.
