Study abroad opportunities abound for students with disabilities. No matter what type of disability you have, you can study abroad.

How to learn more

There are many resources available to help decide if study abroad is right for you. Visit the International Center, N52 Memorial Union, to explore options available. Then visit the Office of Disability Services, A038 Brady Commons, to discuss accommodations while studying abroad.

  • Mobility International USA: MIUSA is dedicated to expanding opportunities for people with disabilities in international exchange. Email: info@miusa.org. Phone/TTY: (541) 343-1284.
  • University of Minnesota: Access Abroad lists accessibility information for over 40 international sites in 25 different countries.
  • Society for the Advancement of Travel for the Handicapped: SATH provides general information on travel and accessibility. E-mail: sathtravel@aol.com Phone/TTY: (212) 447-7284.
  • Travel tips for the Hearing Impaired
  • Access-Able Travel Source: Access-Able Travel Source is dedicated to aiding travelers with disabilities and the mature traveler. They accomplish this by having practical information needed to go across town or around the world. The data base has not only accessible accommodations, but everything to make a trip fun and exciting - including safaris, sailing, raft trips and parasailing.
  • Disabled travelers can find comprehensive information at: www.halftheplanet.org. Ideas, products and services are featured in the "resources" section. From there, click "travel."
  • Disabled Travel Network: This includes worldwide disability travel reports and international access guides.
  • International Institution of Education (IIE): IIE provides a guide to planning and preparing for study abroad which includes a section on travel for students with disabilities

Have questions regarding a specific disability? Please visit the Office of Disability Services. ODS will work closely with students and study abroad advisors to help ensure a successful experience abroad.
