Sponsored Student Handbook

Advising services

You can meet with our team in-person or online according to the international sponsored students schedule on the advising page. Any advising changes or cancellations will be posted on that page, so check it regularly. Online appointments will be scheduled through MU Connect and you will receive a meeting link in the confirmation email.

If you are not available during advising hours or have a longer question, call or email to set up an appointment. If you come to the International Center without an appointment, we cannot guarantee that we will be in the office to meet with you.

Be sure to consult our team before doing any of the following throughout your academic program:

  • Seeking employment
  • Dropping courses
  • Changing major
  • Enrolling in online courses

Communication is key! Our team is here to ensure you have a smooth and successful academic program. Please communicate with us often and inform us of any issues, good or bad. It is much easier for us to assist if we know earlier rather than later.

Document requests

Document requests such as I-20/DS-2019 extensions, letters of good standing, Social Security letters, etc., can be requested in myStatus.

Remember to submit your requests early. Typical processing for all document requests is 3–5 business days after receiving all required materials. If you submit a request for same-day processing, we may not be able to accommodate the timeframe.

Once your request is processed, you will receive an email that your document is ready to be picked up (if applicable) from the International Center. Do not try to pick up your document before receiving that email.

If your I-20/DS-2019 is managed by your sponsor, some requests will be made through your sponsor’s portal. Processing times may be several weeks for some requests.
