Hi Mizzou! I am a junior studying Interdisciplinary Studies: Women and Gender Studies. Currently, I am studying abroad in Seville, Spain through Cultural Experiences Abroad (CEA). I arrived here on January 22. Is it too early to say I’m never leaving? Maybe, but I don’t care. Since the moment I arrived, I have been surrounded by challenges, surprises and everything in between. On my second day here, I took the wrong bus to the opposite end of the city. But, now I am a public transportation master. In addition, I’ve mastered the art of hanging laundry. The trick is to wash your clothes early in the morning so they are dry by late afternoon. No need to let them hang overnight. All of my classes at the University of Seville are taught in Spanish. I also live with a homestay family who speaks little English. I live with one roommate who is from the United States as well. Teresa and her son, Lorenzo, have been so welcoming and truly have made us feel like their house is our house since the moment we stepped foot inside. Each day presents new challenges and triumphs. During some conversations, I’ll have to ask my host mom to speak a bit slower or I’ll have to pull out SpanishDict for some vocabulary help. Other days, we can go hours talking about anything from our favorite movies, childhood memories, or politics. I am learning so much everyday and I couldn’t have gotten luckier with the family and roommate I was given. I am beyond excited for the next three months in this incredible place. Here is a photo of me hanging my first load of laundry. Thanks for reading!
