This month has been a nice blend of hardcore studying and traveling to new places. While studying film and theater here, I have been working on coursework that incorporates analytical analysis of film and world cinema, as well as real-world projects of the theater community that could benefit Manchester as a whole. I can’t lie, it’s been nice to have some structure while abroad, as I have come to realize that it is easy to get overwhelmed with the vast abundance of things to do and see. That being said, it’s also important to have a little fun.

The Beatles Museum in Liverpool

I made it to Liverpool (after having two trains cancel minutes before departure) and learned about the history of the Beatles while seeing the original club they used to perform in. I also visited Strawberry Fields, a Salvation Army site that was the muse for the iconic Beatles song of the same name. I was also able to visit Italy. After a stressful plane ride, a wrong bus, and an almost missed ride, I made it to Rome. I was able to explore the Colosseum and pretend I was a part of the Gladiator franchise while staring in awe at the Roman Pantheon and Forum. I then visited the Sistine Chapel after the longest maze of beautiful artwork to see Michelangelo’s work in person, and finished off at the Trevi Fountain for a successful first day.

The Flavian Amphitheatre, or more commonly known as the Colosseum

After Rome, I made it to Milan, where I was able to see beautiful artwork, including “The Kiss” and works by Leonardo da Vinci, at the Pinacoteca di Brera and the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana. I also visited the Duomo (Milan Cathedral), which is famous for its collection of 4000 statues, gargoyles, and figures, and saw the view of Milan from its rooftop.

The view from the top of the Duomo in Milan

I finished my trip by supporting the USA Para Hockey Team at the Milan 2026 Paralympics in a game that ended in the USA taking home the gold 6-2.
