During my first week in Greece, my program participated in a food tour throughout downtown Athens, where we had the opportunity to sample a variety of traditional Greek foods and learn about the country’s culinary culture. We also visited the Parthenon, also known as the Acropolis, which translates to “highest point of the city.” Sitting atop a large hill overlooking Athens, the Parthenon was even more impressive in person than I had imagined. It was fascinating to experience a historical landmark and learn the history behind it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following our cultural excursions, we attended school orientations in preparation for our teaching placements. Throughout the program, we will be teaching English at both a private school and a refugee support organization called Solidarity Now. I was placed in a fourth grade classroom, and the students have been incredibly welcoming and enthusiastic. They are excited to interact with native English speakers and constantly ask questions, making each day engaging and rewarding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During our first weekend abroad, a group of us traveled to Paros, a beautiful Greek island known for its beaches and charming villages. The following long weekend, I traveled to Italy, where I visited Vatican City and experienced the breathtaking sight of the Colosseum lit up at night. From Rome, we continued south to Positano on the Amalfi Coast. The scenery was absolutely stunning, and it quickly became one of my favorite places I have ever visited. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the program continues, I am looking forward to gaining more teaching experience and immersing myself further in Greek culture. At the same time, I am already sad about the day I will have to leave Greece and say goodbye to the friends I have grown so close to during this unforgettable experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
