Student worker
Chance Walker, a senior at the University of Missouri, is set to graduate in spring 2025 with a bachelor's degree in English, history and international studies, and minors in Japanese and political science. Chance is an ambassador for the LEAD program, prioritizing inclusion and cross-cultural communication. In summer 2023, Chance began working with the Asian Affairs Center and became the treasurer of the MU Japanese Student Association. Over summer 2024, continuing his study of the Japanese language and culture, Chance attended the Japan Center for Michigan Universities summer intensive language program in Hikone, Japan.
However, Chance's academic interactions aren't limited to only those from Japan. He has fostered strong connections with those he's met through the center's programs and while attending courses at MU, especially with those from South Korea and Taiwan. Chance seeks to be a bridge builder, strengthening international relations between the U.S. and Asia.
After graduating, Chance plans to pursue graduate school in history, focusing on contemporary U.S. foreign policy, specifically the U.S.'s interactions with the countries of East Asia. Finally, as a proud Kansas Citian, Chance hopes to share Midwest culture with those abroad!
