Exchange Student Orientation Handbook

Stay connected

Mizzou is home to more than 30,000 students. International students make up about five percent of the student body, including 20–30 exchange students each semester. There are lots of opportunities to get involved on campus, which is a great way to meet new people and experience American student life outside the classroom.

MU has more than 600 student organizations with focuses that include sports, cultures and special interests. Learn more on the MU Engage and Get Involved websites.

Volunteer opportunities

There are many ways to volunteer on campus or in the local community. Learn more on the Get Involved website, or find an office or department on campus that fits your area of interest and ask about their volunteer opportunities. You can also earn academic credit through community service in courses offered by the Office of Service-Learning.

Language partners

If you would like to focus on improving your English language skills, refer to this list of English classes and programs. You can also contact the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures or Asian Affairs Center and ask to be matched with Americans or other international students interested in language exchange.
