Review Mizzou technology abroad for information about multifactor authentication, VPN and eduroam internet access. If you will not have access to your U.S. phone number for multifactor authentication, you should set up an alternate form of authentication before you go abroad.
Phone service
Since your program is only a few months long, be wary of purchasing a cell phone with a contract abroad. Some good options to consider are:
- Contact your current provider to see what options are available in Norway.
- Unlock your American phone and buy a pre-paid SIM card in Norway.
- Purchase a pay-as-you-go phone in Norway.
Most smartphones have the ability to turn off the mobile data and use Wi-Fi only. You won’t be able to call or text from your phone, but you will be able to send email, surf the web and use certain apps.
Phone calls to and from Norway
- To call Norway from the U.S.: dial 011 (international code) + 47 (country code) + city code + phone number
- To call the U.S. from Norway: dial 00 (international code) + 1 (country code) + phone number (including area code)
- To make calls within Norway: dial city code + phone number
Internet access
You will have access to the internet through your host university. The access may be more limited than you are used to at MU, but you should find that it will more than meet your academic needs.
