Scott Wallace

Instructor

Scott Wallace grew up during the American/international folk music revival period of the 1960s. He listened to, memorized and sang the spirituals, stories of adventure, love, difficulties, pain, work, joy and rejection. He learned these songs in school, from records (yes, records), TV (yes, TV) and performances. In high school, Scott began his lifelong studying and playing guitar, and singing these folk songs along with the popular songs.

Scott took a semester break from formal school at the University of Colorado Boulder to travel solo, with backpack, through the countries of Great Britain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands. He also took two road trips to Mexico, one with the University of Colorado swimming team and the other with a friend. He worked two summers at Appel Farm in New Jersey, an international art and music camp for children and staff. He was the waterfront director and a music performer. All of these experiences encouraged Scott to change his major to international business and music (with an emphasis on folk music). He also lived for a year on the French speaking floor of the student dormitories.

After marrying Laurie, Scott moved to Columbia, Mo., and started working in the Columbia Public Schools. He completed his degree in business administration and became certified to teach business education. In several mid-Missouri high schools, Scott taught business subjects such as accounting, economics, personal finance, marketing and computer software applications, and sponsored the district yearbook and Future Business Leaders of America. Scott is also certified to teach marketing and special education. His teaching goals for students are that they enthusiastically want to learn and can learn!
