Sea beautiful, see sick
By Kelli D.

Here’s a tale that happened not long ago
In fact, it happened yesterday y era extraño
You see I saw the sea
Maybe it’s just me
But you might also agree
That to be by the sea, carefree, working toward a degree
In actuality, is the most gleeful place to be
On the beach
There was not sand, but instead rocks that each
Were rounded to perfection, such a sight to see
And when the waves rolled over them they sang a chorus to me
The clouds were hanging low
The sky a canvas of white
Everything was perfect until later that night
It had been five days since I passed through customs quick
And I guess it took awhile for the new food to click
Because suddenly I felt dizzy as could be
The food began to rumble in my stomach
A horrible fish and rice medley
It was uncomfortable
It was not poetic
While my friends were dancing around the Lima town
I was sitting back at home wearing a porcelain crown
So if you plan to study abroad
I plan I do not condemn
Just make sure you are careful when eating street food and acting on a whim
And if this happens to happen to someone just like you
Take pride in your new knowledge
Of the bathrooms in Peru
