Bergen, Norway

I have been in Bergen for about a month now, and it has been an adventure already. Getting settled into Bergen was difficult at first, with having to quarantine when entering Norway, but it has been good. I have eight roommates in total. One of them is actually from Mizzou, so it has been really nice having some sort of familiarity. My roommates are from several different countries in Europe and Asia, and it has been fun learning about everyone’s lives at home and how they differ from my own.

Bergen is a beautiful place and I’m so happy to be living here. There’s so much to explore and enjoy. Classes have started and while we haven’t been in-person for them due to COVID, they are very interesting and different from classes back at Mizzou. They are full of students from all across the world and, during discussions, it is good to be able to hear from all different kinds of perspectives.

The class structure is actually pretty different. We have class once, maybe twice a week, and at the end of the semester, we submit one take-home exam. That is pretty much our only assignment throughout the semester, which is very different. However, these classes are very discussion-heavy, so while you only have one assignment, you are still very involved in the class. Overall, Bergen has been great and I’m excited to keep exploring.
