One month ago, I embarked on my first trip out of America. Destination: London, England. I planned to complete a two-month internship with IES Abroad and Centre 404, a charity supporting people with autism and learning disabilities. So far, the highlights of my study abroad experience have been my internship and exploring the city!

I am a psychology student, and my internship has provided me with excellent opportunities to understand the needs of people with learning disabilities and autism. I have spent time shadowing support workers, assisting with daily care and completing research tasks. These opportunities have helped me develop a stronger intuitive sense for interacting with people with different needs.

My adviser is also an amazing role model—hearing her stories always inspires me! I have also enjoyed spending time with my flatmates, four students from other universities pursuing similar internships with IES Abroad. I am passionate about the arts, so it has been exciting to visit a few of London’s many free museums together. My favorite exhibit so far has been a Yoko Ono exhibit at Tate Modern!

London also has many beautiful parks and forests, which are great places to relax after exploring new areas of the city and trying new food. One of my favorite things about London is how huge it is; there are so many people to meet and so many places to go, inviting endless possibilities.
