London reflections, museums and strangers

I recently returned home from a two-month study abroad program in London with IES Abroad. A few of my favorite things to do in London were exploring new museums and meeting new people! London is known for its free museums displaying a vibrant variety of exhibits. A few of my favorite museums were the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum! The British Museum houses worldwide treasures, including The Rosetta Stone. Growing up, I sometimes struggled to feel connected to history lessons, and seeing significant historical items in person made historical stories feel a lot more resonant and real. The Victoria and Albert Museum showcases historical arts and designs from various backgrounds; I enjoyed learning about Buddhist art.

Meeting new people was also one of my favorite London activities. My program involved an internship working with people with autism and learning disabilities, and my coworkers came from all over the world! Hearing their stories and connecting with service users expanded my perspective in many ways. Outside of my internship, I found and attended a weekly philosophy group. I enjoyed spending a few hours each week hearing about locals’ concerns and outlooks. It helped me realize that like-minded individuals exist even 4,000 miles away!
