Short and sweet

It is hard for me to believe how fast time seems to be moving. I am already over halfway through my stay in Norway, and it feels like February started last week when it somehow ends tomorrow. While short, it has still been a busy month filled with many activities. Despite the weather in the last two weeks having warmed up, causing my snowboarding conditions to sour, the first half of the month had the best conditions of the season since the very beginning of January. This was great news, as my aunt and cousin flew over for a short trip, during which we spent three days in Voss where my cousin and I got to snowboard to our hearts’ content. He may have more time on a snowboard than I do, but I still got to take him off piste riding for the first time since his home mountain does not allow it, nor does it have the facilities for real off piste areas.

I was also able to find a day this month to go to the University of Bergen Museum. While I have been to larger museums before, this was probably one of my favorites that I have been to for one key reason: The Whale Hall. The museum had one section dedicated to whales, and being a natural history type museum, it had whale skeletons hanging from the ceilings, including a blue whale from the mid-19th century! I paced it out to be around 24 yards long, but they can grow to be up to 30 yards long. Along with the blue whale, they also had the skeletons of a humpback whale, a fin whale, a sei whale, two minke whales and a few other smaller species. If you are ever in Bergen and have a few hours to kill, I would highly recommend popping up to the UiB Museum and checking it out.
