First impressions of Tübingen

Tübingen is a gorgeous city! It’s filled with history and joy that is unlike any city I’ve ever seen in the U.S. It’s around the size of Columbia, Missouri, but it feels both open and intimate at once. It’s hard to explain, but it’s a lively city with quiet parts. In the middle of the city, there are shops and restaurants and all kinds of entertainment, from movie theaters to museums to clubs. Walking around the cobblestone streets, you feel a sense of peace seeing everyone sitting outside to eat at cafes as soon as it isn’t literally freezing. There’s always something new to find.
Just on the outskirts of the city sits a little village. Called Bebenhausen, it’s only about a 15-minute bus ride until you see the rolling hills and lush landscape of the small village. Distilling all of the quiet parts of Tübingen, Bebenhausen holds only around 300 people. Despite that, it also holds the old monastery and everything one would need to live and thrive in their old age. Quiet and serene, I’ve never seen anything quite like it.
