Springing into the new season

Vår er her i Bergen! Været er bedre nå og jeg vil gå på tur i fjellet til hytter og til å telte nå. Jeg har allerede vært til en hytte og teltet de siste to ukene. Jeg skal fortsette på engelsk nedenfor og sier hva dette betyr.
Spring is here in Bergen, and to say I am looking forward to the adventures it will hold is an understatement. The promise of good weather to come has me itching to get back into the mountains and to explore the areas around Bergen as much as I can. I’ve already started to get out of the city again with two trips the past two weekends, one to a DNT cabin and the other on a camping expedition.
The cabin trip was to a small island on the coast about two hours north of Bergen with two friends, and the cabin was called Rongevær Kysthytte. At least it is called a cabin; I would describe it as more of a bed and breakfast or inn given its size and facilities. There were enough beds for nigh on 40 people, as well as electricity, running water and showers. It was definitely the most unique “cabin” I have been to so far, considering the fact that we had to access it via rowboat, and it was a fantastic way to spend the weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather. The availability of a target for axe throwing was an added bonus.
The camping trip was to the nearby island of Osterøy, about an hour from Bergen, with the same people who accompanied me to the cabin. With another weekend of beautiful weather we had a hike of about three and half hours to where we made our campsite. There were some fantastic views along the way, we found the pelvis of a male roe deer in a river, and there were some fantastically comfortable places to sit and read at camp. I am currently working on “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” and I would have made better progress had my friend continued his nap instead of waking up and distracting me. No hard feelings though, as the conversations were both plenty and much fun. Unfortunately the weather for this upcoming weekend doesn’t look as nice as it has been the past few, but I may still head to a cabin. As the Norwegians say, there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.
