Being present in your city

One of the things that I think is important to do in the city that you live in for study abroad is to experience things within your city. The worst thing that I can think of to happen is to live in a city for a semester and feel like you have experienced more in places you have traveled. That is why I have tried to find different events to go to.
Freiburg, the town that I am living in for this semester, has many museums that you can go to, good sports teams to watch and great restaurants to discover. Finding local things to do is great in a group of people or just to do by yourself. Some of the things that I love to do with my friends are to find different restaurants, thrifting, bouldering and local sporting events like hockey.
By myself, I enjoy going to some shops that sell things from local artists and going to previously mentioned museums. Here in the Black Forest it is very popular to go on hikes, so every once in a while when I go on them I also walk to new areas of the city that I have not been to before just to explore different stores and businesses there.
If you are not sure where to start, try asking your roommates (if you have them) where they like to go, members in the same program as you might also be looking to just go exploring, or look on Google Maps and see if there is anything interesting that catches your eye.
Going to many of the areas around where you live as well as actually getting involved is a great way to experience the city that you live in!
