The importance of friendship in unfamiliar places

Trulaske study abroad has been a life changing experience for me. The countries we have traveled to have taught me so much and the people who were alongside me taught me so much as well. The most important part of my study abroad experience though has been the friendships I have built throughout my time on the program. Being in an unfamiliar place can cause all sorts of emotions and having a group of people I knew I could lean on has made all the difference in the world. I get to leave this program with new knowledge and experiences, but most importantly I am leaving with friendships that will last throughout the rest of my time at Mizzou. Arriving at the airport to depart on my journey, I saw so many familiar faces and it turned all my nerves into excitement. I shortly realized that the people we would meet and build relationships with was one of the most crucial parts of the study abroad experience.

From the time we began the program till the end, everyone showed up for one another and made each other feel included. All of us developed a bond that was unique to us because it was built through all of our new experiences and learning curves we experienced in a whole new country. We were there for each other when things were hard, when people felt lost or confused, and all the good moments that filled the in between. The people on this program made every moment a great moment and I couldn’t be more grateful for the students, managers and professors that were with me on this trip.
