A change of pace, life in Lyon

Hello from Lyon, France!
About 3 weeks ago I touched down on French soil for a 4 month stay. In that time I have discovered a variety of good to weird cultural experiences which I would like to share with you today.
No mention of French culture would be complete without the delicious bread and butter offered at the local Boulangerie and grocery stores, it’s delicious and a good price. One Lyon specialty that has captured my heart so far is the Brioche aux Pralines. It is a sweet praline bread that is bright pink!
Getting used to my environment has meant that I have had some difficulties as well. For example, the first time I tried to find the trash room in my apartment building, this was a difficult task in itself) I ended up locked inside the dark trash room and use the fire escape stairs to leave (which then brought me outside the building with no way back in except through the front door). Another issue I have come across is odd operating hours of stores. Almost everything is closed on Sundays except the laundromat and a few fast food restaurants. Lastly, the public transport is a nice change of pace from the car culture back home. My last fun tidbit is that since Christmas just passed, there are piles of Christmas trees in each neighborhood park waiting to be picked up and composted.
Best, Evon Scheurich
