My first weeks in Japan

I’ve been in Japan since March 18 now, marking roughly two weeks now that I’ve been here. And along with that, come various experiences and thoughts regarding those experiences. One of my favorite aspects of Japan so far has been the public transport. In America, you practically have to drive everywhere, and most of the available public transport isn’t exactly convenient or nice. Here, you can take public transport to get around most of the country in an orderly convenient matter, allowing you to get about anywhere you need just using your own two feet. Since I live in a sharehouse between central Osaka and my school in Nishinomiya, I can take a commute to either location just by walking and getting on a train.

Almost everything here is convenient (minus the paperwork). As someone who has almost always been interested in Japanese stuff, whether it be games, anime, manga, music, history or the broader culture, I had always wanted to go to Japan. Being here, there are many stores for all the kinds of interests you might have. I have enjoyed going with a friend to downtown Osaka and Nipponbashi and shopping around at various game and anime related stores. On top of exploring all the different stores, there are also an endless amount of amazing restaurants. I’ve been trying so many new foods for the first time and gaining a taste for new things. It’s been really cool to try things like ramen or sushi, but also dishes with different styles depending on the region like okonomiyaki. I’m excited for a lot of other aspects, however being in Osaka makes me feel spoiled for choice when it comes to food for sure.
