I have now spent a total of two weeks in Athens, Greece, exploring local restaurants, flea markets, the Acropolis, our internship placements and venturing out to the island of Paros.

There have already been several rewarding experiences such as meeting the kiddos at the private school and interacting with adults who are learning English at Solidarity Now. The individuals I’ve had the pleasure to meet and understand have allowed me to gauge the type of educator I want to be but also the kind of person I want to become. Every student I have met has been very welcoming and it’s fascinating how fluent they are in English, Greek and French. They took the time to create the sweetest notes for me and my friends, even writing in English to accommodate us! I am truly grateful for these kiddos and the kindness they have extended during my transition.

I have also met some of the most amazing women on this program who are sharing the same experience as myself! I’ve made best friends for life and we have had a great time getting to know each other and exploring the country as a group. During our weekend in Paros we tried a variety of food and laid in the sun at the beach for the afternoon.

These girls have made a significant impact on my program and I have enjoyed every adventure with them. I am so grateful for their companionship and knowledge that has allowed me to find my space within Greece. I can’t wait to see what the next month has in store!

This program has truly changed my life and my perspective on the world, one day at a time. I hope that I can make as big of an impact on the students and the culture I am immersed in as it/they are making on me! Not only am I striving for personal growth but also with the goal to make genuine change in others lives. The most important aspect is that I venture out to develop into the individual I aspire to become. Let the adventures continue!
