F-1 students do not need International Student and Scholar Services’ permission to accept on-campus employment. J-1 students must request authorization for on campus employment in myStatus, and employment must be updated in SEVIS.
You can work up to 20 hours per week on campus during the fall and spring semesters. You can work more than 20 hours per week on campus during the summer term and designated breaks (e.g., winter or spring break).
A graduate assistantship is considered on-campus employment. A .50 assistantship is equal to 20 hours of work per week, regardless of actual number of hours spent working. A .25 assistantship is equal to 10 hours of work per week, regardless of actual number of hours spent working.
As an international student, you are not eligible for “work study” employment.
If you have questions about what qualifies as on-campus employment, please contact your international student adviser. You can visit the MU Career Center for assistance with writing your résumé and to learn more about working on campus.
