COVID-19: Update for international students and scholars
March 13, 2020
Dear MU international students and scholars,
As you know, MU continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and make adjustments to ensure the safety and well-being of all faculty, staff and students. Currently, there are no known cases of COVID-19 on the MU campus. The most recent updates and information can be found on the MU Alert website.
The suspension of in-person classes will not impact international students’ immigration status. Recent guidance by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program allows universities to adapt procedures and policies to address the public health concerns associated with COVID-19. International students should continue participating in their courses, regardless of the method of instruction. International students who stop participating in their classes may jeopardize their immigration status. Please contact an ISSS adviser if you anticipate an difficulties related to participating in your classes during these changes.
Additionally, we know that some of you were planning to travel during spring break. We sent a travel advisory message to strongly caution you and recommend that you reconsider any plans to travel domestically or internationally. The current unpredictability of the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions that can be imposed without warning can severely restrict mobility and flexibility and can exhaust personal resources. We cannot emphasize enough that you should seriously re-think travel plans at this time.
Many other questions and concerns have come to our attention, so we have posted an informational page on our website to provide answers and resources for you. Please review this information so you can make the best decisions for your own well-being and peace of mind. We will also be scheduling a series of online meetings via Zoom to share updates and listen to your concerns. These will be announced shortly and you will be invited to attend by email.
Finally, International Student and Scholar Services remains open for business. We are here to advise and support you during this challenging time. If you are not comfortable coming in during our regularly scheduled walk-in advising, you can call 573-882-6007 or email your ISSS adviser. We will make every effort to answer your questions and provide the help and resources you may need to carry on with your life at Mizzou.
