Peyton Ross, an MU sophomore studying journalism, won the highest standing award (first place) for the beginning level at the third Midwest Korean Speech Contest on April 16, 2022. Fifty students representing 20 different schools participated in the virtual contest, and 18 students competed in Peyton’s division.

Peyton spoke about how she overcame her hardships through the word “uri,” which means “we” in English. Peyton has taken Korean courses since fall 2021. She was awarded a scholarship to study Korean at Sogang University in Seoul.

Congrats, Peyton!
