SEVIS fees to increase starting June 24
June 12, 2019
The U.S. Student Exchange and Visitor Program recently announced changes to its fees. These changes will be implemented at midnight EDT on June 24, 2019, and will impact international students and scholars on specific visas.
F-1/J-1 international students
If you will apply for an F-1 or J-1 visa, you are required to pay an I-901 SEVIS fee before scheduling your visa appointment at a U.S. embassy.
- F-1 students: The fee will increase from $200 to $350
- J-1 students: The fee will increase from $180 to $220
If you will be attending MU this fall and you have already paid your SEVIS fee, this change will not affect you. If you will be attending MU this fall and you have not paid your SEVIS fee, we encourage you to do so before the increase on June 24.
J-1 international scholars
International professors, researchers and short-term scholars coming to MU on a J-1 visa are also required to pay an I-901 SEVIS fee before scheduling a visa appointment at a U.S. embassy. This fee will increase from $180 to $220 on June 24.
If you have questions about applying for your visa or how this change might impact you, please contact your international adviser.
