Welcome to America! Preparing for the Arrival of Afghan Refugees
Oct. 18, 2021
The Taliban takeover in Afghanistan has led many Afghans to seek refuge in the United States. What does it mean to be a refugee? And how can our community support Afghan refugees resettling in Missouri? In this webinar held Friday, Oct. 15, experts and practitioners discussed the challenges refugees face and what we can do to help. This webinar was moderated by Mary Stegmaier, vice provost for International Programs, and featured the following presenters:
- Ismat A. R. Kaakar, M.D., MHA, Afghan program coordinator for the Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri
- Arati Maleku, Ph.D., assistant professor, College of Social Work, The Ohio State University
- Samantha Moog, MA, LCSW, director of refugee services, Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri
