Worldwide Caution (Jan. 15, 2019)

Jan. 15, 2019

Note: A version of this message was emailed to MU students abroad.

Dear MU students:

In accordance with our policy, we are sending you the most recent U.S. Department of State Worldwide Caution. The Department of State issues Worldwide Cautions to provide general security information, as well as specific instructions regarding how to prepare for possible incidents, receive real time information about on-going events and remain in contact with the State Department in event of an emergency. These also serve as a reminder to continue to be aware of your surroundings at all times and to continue to stay up-to-date about developing current events and safety and security issues.

Reminder: The University of Missouri requires that you register any additional side trips you choose to take before, during or after your program — including personal travel. The university uses this information to quickly locate students in case of emergency. To register travel, select the “add a side trip” button in the itinerary panel of your myStudyAbroad application. Internet access is not always available when traveling, so register your planned travel in advance whenever possible.

In the event of an emergency, for immediate help, first contact local emergency services in your location. After doing so, and when you are safe, contact the MU 24/7 emergency assistance line by calling the MU Police Department at +1 573-882-7201, and they will contact an appropriate MU staff member to assist you.
